Energy-efficient Flow Concepts

In both air-conditioning and process air systems, implementation of an efficient flow concept represents the basis for economical operation. This has to be developed before the system is installed, but also reviewed if there are changes to the existing system or if there are any problems such as reduced capacity, and if necessary optimised.

Comfortable and efficient air-conditioning in buildings

Existing heating/ventilation/cooling systems and ventilation units often have a lower capacity yet higher energy consumption than modern units. The causes for this are frequently material fatigue or obsolete technologies. But incorrect settings, leading for example to a “short-circuit” in the air flow between fresh air and waste air, also cause increased energy consumption and reduced capacity.

To achieve higher energy efficiency, it is not always necessary to overhaul or replace an entire system. Existing systems can often be optimized by streamlining their flow or by replacing individual components. As part of our engineering services, we analyze the actual situation, identify potential for optimization and make specific recommendations for action.

To do so, we perform an energy analysis plus system optimization under different operating modes – either at our laboratory or directly on the spot. In addition, the existing flow configuration and ventilation effectiveness (VDI), and their consequences for thermal comfort and air quality in the room, are measured and optimized.

Ideal production processes in the industry

Air is used for a wide range of tasks in production systems and processes: for heating or cooling, for conveying material, for drying and much more besides. Ingenious and efficient flow concepts therefore not only ensure optimum production and processing, and as a result consistently high product quality, but also reduce production costs by making energy savings, providing in this way a competitive edge.

Whether it’s for a new or an existing process – we support you in the implementation or optimization of air flow concepts. With (CFD) simulations that visualize the air flow using a virtual model of the planned or existing machine and make it possible to assess it; with flow tests in the lab for comparing different concepts, or with on-the-spot measurements where an actual situation analysis reveals potential for optimization.
